RUGBY coaches are raising their game as they tackle improved training techniques to help players in Shildon.

Coaches with Durham Tigers, based in Shildon, are taking part in the Rugby Football League scheme to improve training techniques at clubs.

The scheme seeks to raise the level of coaching amongst amateur clubs.

Phil Selby, club secretary, said: “As a result of this course the coaches should be better able to train the youngsters to a higher standard.

“The kids can only progress as far as the coaches can take them. This will offer the players greater opportunities to progress further in the national game.”

John Simpson, chairman of the Tigers, said: “This is a win, win situation. All our players, irrespective of ability, will benefit from the skills which our coaches will develop.

“It will give players the confidence to take those vital steps which are required to go on to have a professional career.

Durham Tigers has teams for players aged from nine-years up to 16-years and the club is seeking players of all ages and abilities.

Anyone interested in the Durham Tigers should contact Mr Selby on 01833641143 or turn up at training at the Shildon Sunnydale Leisure Centre on Saturdays from 10am.
