FAMILIES are encouraged to get outdoors and sporty this Easter when County Durham parks host free activities.

Durham County Council's Parklife programme will host Go Play Easter events at Hackworth Park, Shildon, on Wednesday April 8; Glenholme Park, Crook, on Thursday, April 9; and Bishop Town Recreation Park, Bishop Auckland, on Friday, April 10.

Activities will include rounders and tennis, there is no need to book and all sessions run from 1pm to 4pm.

Over winter, Parklife was on at indoor venues in the three towns and included archery, family games, exercise classes, football and netball. A spring and summer programme of activities will be announced soon.

Marie Urwin, sport and physical activity development officer, said: “These sessions are all about having a go a range of sports that all the family can enjoy and we are delighted they are continuing.

“Hundreds of people have taken part and we are looking forward to welcoming new people on the road to fitness.”
