A KEEN baker is inviting home cooks of all ages to create cakes, pies and other tasty treats for a charity bake sale.

The Jubilee Bake Off, at Jubilee Fields Community Centre in Shildon on Saturday, April 25, will raise funds for Help for Heroes, while bringing residents together for a day of fun and indulgence.

Event organiser Heidi Cronin is seeking donations of cakes, biscuits and other sweet and savoury goodies to sell at the event, with a special prize up for grabs for the best offering.

The bake sale, which runs from 10am to 4pm, coincides with a tabletop sale at the centre and the Mayor of Shildon, Councillor Henry Nicholson, is expected to attend.

There will also be a Help for Heroes pop-up shop selling official merchandise to raise further funds for the charity, which helps servicemen and women wounded in conflict.

Miss Cronin, 33, said: “Help for Heroes is fantastic charity that supports people who risk their lives for our country.

“I wanted to raise money for the charity but I also wanted to bring the community together. I enjoy baking myself and thought a bake sale would be the perfect way to do it.”

Donations of cakes can be brought to the centre, in Jubilee Road, from 9am on the day of the sale.
