SHOPPERS and visitors to Bishop Auckland are being enticed into the town centre with a series of colourful banners.

The Bishop Auckland Town Team has arranged for 35 banners to be erected from the roundabout at Morrisons along Newgate Street to the Market Place.

Each of the banners has an image on it which relates to the town and they fit in with a blue and gold theme which is associated with the town.

Traders and businesses have sponsored the banners which are to remain in place until Autumn when they will be replaced by the town’s Christmas lights.

Lee Brownson, a town team member, said: “It's fantastic to see the new banners hanging up making the town more colourful and welcoming for shoppers and visitors.

“Without the support of the local businesses in the town these new banners wouldn't be possible and we would like to thank each of them.

“It shows that everyone is working together in supporting our town.”

Additional blue and gold themed bunting will also be put up along Fore Bondgate, in the town.

The next meeting of the Bishop Auckland Town Team is at the Four Clocks Centre, 154a Newgate Street, on Thursday, May 14, at 6pm.
