A TEENAGE ballerina is jumping for joy after becoming one of only six youngsters in the region to win a place at a dance workshop.

Emma Louise Kelly, 14, is a student at the Sarah Louise School of Ballet, based in Northallerton, North Yo rkshire.

The teenager, who hopes to become a professional ballerina, won the place after an audition at Polam Hall School, in Darlington, last month.

Emma is the only student from the ballet school to win a place in the Royal Academy of Dance workshops, which again will be held at Polam Hall, next month.

Sarah Louise Deighton, who runs the dance school, which has about 200 pupils, said: "I am incredibly proud of Emma - as I am of all my students.

"I believe Emma is the youngest dancer to be selected for the workshops.

"When she is 16, she will goto a professional dance school for training.

"It really is a pleasure to be able to nurture the natural talent I have in my school. " Emma is also an associate at The Yo rk Scholarship Centre and The Hammond School, in Chester, which she has attended regularly over the past four years.

This summer, she graduated from the middle associates of The Royal Academy of Dance, where she had been attending weekly classes in Leeds.

The school recently entered students for vocational ballet examinations, all of whom passed.

As well as running the school for the past six years, Miss Deighton took up teaching A-level and GCSE courses in dance, at Northallerton College, last month.

The ballet school is open to new members. Call Miss Deighton on 01609-770256.
