AT the age of 101, many people would be content to put their feet up.
Grandmother Winifred Hudson, however, believes she is too young to wind down, and next month will take her place in the Race for Life. Mrs Hudson has pledged to complete at least half of the 5km race, in York on July 6, on her own two feet, with a wheelchair for back-up if needed. The centenarian, who has lived in Bedale for the past 25 years, will be joined by nine members of staff from The Millings care home, where she has been a resident since May.
Mrs Hudson said: "It's for a good cause and I liked the idea of trying something new. My daughter had cancer so I'm doing it for her." Mrs Hudson's daughter, Christine, said: "Whatever my mother wants to do, I have never been able to stop her."
There are places left for the York Race for Life. Call 0871-641-2275.
