THE US, like the rest of us, is a bit short of cash at the moment.
Yet the presidential election cost campaigners a staggering $2.3bn.
Just think what they could have done with that money if they’d spent it on something useful and just tossed a coin to decide it all.
Meanwhile, Michelle Obama looked proud and happy as the results came in. But I wonder.
She’s got another four years when her own life is on hold, another four years trying to give her children a normal upbringing, another four years when everything she wears, says or does, could be turned into ammunition to be used against her.
As First Lady, she is amazingly popular – more so than her husband – and does a great job. But I bet even on that triumphant night, there was still a tiny little bit of her hoping they would lose.
