MOST of us know that Queen Victoria was married to Prince Albert, that they were madly in love and had nine children during their 21-year marriage, which ended with Albert’s death from typhoid fever in 1861.

Although we are told their marriage was a happy one – and rumour has it a passionate one too – we know little about their life together or Victoria’s relationships with her offspring.

The three-part documentary Queen Victoria’s Children aims to set the record straight, using a wealth of material left by Victoria, Albert and their children – including diaries, photos, memoirs and journals – to bring their characters to life.

The first episode focused on her marriage to Albert, but tonight we look at Victoria’s relationships with her daughters during her widowhood.

She leaned on them for support, then became determined to arrange their marriages, which did not go down too well.
