IT might interest VJ Connor (HAS, Dec 15) to learn that back in 1963, his “edgy and dangerous” Rolling Stones weren’t too proud to accept a big helping hand at the start of their long career.
The band’s first top 20 hit single, I Wanna Be Your Man, was written by and generously donated to the Stones by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
Jagger and Richards obviously had no worries at all about being associated with “insipid, bubblegum pop” as Mr Connor calls it – their next hit turned out to be a cover of a Buddy Holly song.
