DAVE QUINN (HAS, Dec 29) shouldn’t feel guilty because he feels out of touch with today’s celebrity culture.

It’s an attribute he should celebrate.

I have a complete celebrity bypass. I’m proud of it and it’s nothing to do with my advancing years.

I date my celeb-a-phobia as developing some time in the 1970s when people started to become famous simply because the media conferred this status upon them.

Celebrities appeared almost from nowhere and fame was perceived as something that just happened to lucky people rather than an accolade that had to be earned by sacrifice, dedication and the determination.

The only downside I see about the ignorance of people like Mr Quinn and myself is that celebrity magazines such as Heat, OK, and Hello would fold.

Incidentally, I believe there’s a Yorkshire edition of Hello called Ayup.
