ONE or two letters have appeared in HAS recently, seeking to mitigate Tony Blair’s reprehensible record as British Prime Minister.
My own view is that in this role Mr Blair was primarily motivated by American priorities and concerns, rather than British ones.
He was the enthusiastically compliant pawn of George W Bush and those around him.
Hence our involvement in situations that were no business of ours, resulting in enormous damage to British interests, to the unfortunate peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan, and to world peace.
As to the motives for his extreme, and otherwise totally irrational, pro- Americanism, look no further than his current prosperity and earnings capacity, both incomparably greater than when he was Prime Minister, no doubt thanks in no small measure to American patronage and gratitude.
Tony Kelly, Crook.
