SURELY John Malkin’s letter in support of Sainsbury’s sickeningly exploitative Christmas advert was written with his tongue firmly in his cheek (HAS, Dec 16). The advert was made with only one aim in mind: increased profit for Sainsbury’s.

If Sainbury’s really and singularly wanted to support the British Legion, it could have costed the making of the advert and donated the amount. The actual events of Christmas 1914 have been documented and illustrated elsewhere. I’ve only seen the advert once and, thankfully, it seems to have disappeared from our screens. Perhaps common sense and sensitive taste have prevailed. Sharon Griffiths was spot on.
