NEWCASTLE Falcons booked their place in the quarter-finals of the British & Irish Cup this afternoon with a 93-0 trouncing of Welsh club Newport.

Falcons ran riot at Kingston Park to rack up their 15th straight victory in all competitions this season and confirm a place in the knock-out stages of the competition.

Ryan Shortland and Ally Hogg crossed for early scores before a penalty try made it 19-0 to the hosts before the midway point of the first half.

With Newcastle's forwards exerting complete control from the off, James Hudson and Rob Vickers added first-half tries from close range before Luke Fielden exploited an overlap to make the most of Jimmy Gopperth's decisive break.

Rory Lawson and Taiasana Tu'ifua also claimed tries before the interval, with Vickers' second try of the game making it 57-0 at the break.

There was no let up after the interval with Lawson doubling his personal tally in the opening two minutes of the second half and Fielden crossing for a second time shortly after.

A successful rolling maul and another score from Hudson meant the Falcons entered the final quarter of the game with realistic hopes of breaking the century mark, but while Fielden's hat-trick score and a late try from Andrew Higgins inflicted further misery on Newport, the hosts finished with the scoreboard showing 93-0.
