HARTLEPOOL UNITED’S seven-game unbeaten run is over, after they were beaten 3-0 at Doncaster Rovers.
The League One leaders proved too strong for Pools, who failed to make the impact they have in recent games and, in the end, were well beaten.
Defeat leaves Pools eight points from the safety mark, ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Colchester to Victoria Park.
Home keeper Gary Wood was rarely troubled throughout, but Scott Flinders, at the other end, was far busier, especially in the second half.
In a tame first-half, Pools fell behind to a goal that disappointed John Hughes.
Centre-half Rob Jones rolled a pass into the feet of Iain Hume and the striker turned, ran at goal and fired low into the bottom corner.
Charlie Wyke sent a header over from an Evan Horwood corner before it was two on 55 minutes.
Dave Cotterill helped move the ball from the right side to the left and James Coppinger, who has had two loan spells at Pools, bobbled a low shot across Scott Flinders.
After sub Steve Howard headed across goal and beyond any Pools’ player, Rovers completed the win when Billy Paynter was picked out to arc an header around Flinders.
