Hartlepool United 0 Fleetwood Town 1
Hartlepool United suffered a second successive 1-0 home defeat – leaving the hosts winless and goalless this season.
Just as in their previous home game with Southend, Pools were unable to convert any of their chances as they fell to an early goal.
A tap-in from two yards from Jeff Hughes separated the sides. A low raking shot from Antoni Sercevic went through the legs of Christian Burgess, and was spilled by Pools keeper Scott Flinders with Hughes was on hand to knock in.
The goal came after a bright opening from the home side, who gave debuts to Michael Duckworth and Matty Dolan.
Steve Howard met a deep Jack Compton cross and headed at goal, only for the Mark Roberts to hook off the line.
Then Dolan, signed on loan from Middlesbrough, twice fired at goal from distance, before Bradley Walker curled a first-time effort wide of the post.
Sole striker David Ball hit a low shot into Flinders in a rare visitors attack.
However, Pools seemed to lose some belief and in the second half, it was the visitors who looked more likely to score during a quick spell of pressure.
Ball struck the frame of the goal from an angle, before his goalbound volley was deflected wide.
Pools’ best chance of a leveller came when Howard’s header from a deep Jack Baldwin cross was tipped wide by diving keeper Scott Davies.
