Scunthorpe United 1 Hartlepool United 0
HARTLEPOOL United’s six-game winning run came to an end at Scunthorpe United.
Pools lost at Glanford Park, a single second half goal separating the sides.
After a slow start to the game, Pools had the first chance on 15 minutes, when Luke James turned a header at goal that keeper Sam Slocombe saved.
Then Matty Dolan forced a save from Slocombe, before he raised a firm hand to push a goalbound Jon Franks angled shot over the bar.
James Poole and Andy Monkhouse both had chances before the break – and at the other end, Pools keeper Scott Flinders was untroubled.
At the start of the half, Monkhouse twice went close from distance, the first time his shot deflecting onto the frame of the goal and for a corner.
But that was as much as Pools created, and the Iron upped their attacking game, pegging the visiting defenders back.
And it was from a spell of pressure that they scored.
Christian Burgess tried to knock the ball away from Sam Winnall, but stretched and only knocked it into the striker’s path.
He drew Flinders off his line, and curled his finish around the keeper into the net.
Pools pressed for a late equaliser, but couldn’t find a way through, with Nialle Rodney and Monkhouse both shooting wide.
