Pardew makes five changes for Man City cup tie
ALAN PARDEW has made five changes to his Newcastle United starting line-up for this evening's Capital One Cup fourth-round tie with Manchester City.
Despite previously stating that winning a cup was "a priority" this season, Pardew has left arguably his three strongest players - Yohan Cabaye, Loic Remy and Hatem Ben Arfa - out of his starting XI.
The trio are replaced by Vurnon Anita, Shola Ameobi and Papiss Cisse, with Newcastle expected to line up in a 4-4-2 formation.
There are also two changes in the back four, with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa replacing Paul Dummett after serving a one-game ban at Sunderland, and Massadio Haidara coming in for his first start of the season ahead of Davide Santon.
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has also made a host of changes, including omitting England goalkeeper Joe Hart, but the visitors can still call on the likes of Jesus Navas, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko.
NEWCASTLE (4-4-2): Krul; Debuchy, Williamson, Yanga-Mbiwa, Haidara; Sissoko, Tiote, Anita, Gouffran; Shola Ameobi, Cisse.
Subs: Elliot (gk), Dummett, Cabaye, Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Ben Arfa, Remy.
MAN CITY (4-3-3): Pantilimon; Richards, Boyata, Lescott, Kolarov; Rodwell, Garcia, Navas; Milner, Dzeko, Jovetic.
Subs: Hart (gk), Zabaleta, Demichelis, Nasri, Silva, Fernandinho, Negredo.
