Mourinho angry and frustrated after Newcastle defeat
JOSE MOURINHO admitted he was “angry and frustrated” with his players after the Chelsea manager’s latest attempt to win a league game on Tyneside ended in defeat.
Despite his hugely successful time in England, Mourinho is yet to taste victory in a league game at St James’ Park and the wait goes on after goals from Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy earned Newcastle a deserved win.
The defeat is Chelsea’s first in all competitions since September 18 and in his post-match press conference, the Portuguese manager was far from happy with his star-studded side.
“It is fair to say I am angry and frustrated,” Mourinho said. “I am angry and frustrated with the team and I am part of the team. I will look at myself as well. I treat every game the same way.
“I told them nothing. After the match I said nothing. After the match it is time to cool down. I never say anything to them immediately after a game. I hope there will be a reaction. I will address it with my players tomorrow (Sunday).”
The Blues are unbeaten at home this season, but they have had difficulties on the road and Mourinho admits it is something he will have to address – once he has analysed his side’s performance.
He said: “You can pragmatically say that at home we have had five matches and five victories and away we have had five matches and one victory and two defeats.
“But we can also say we have played away at very difficult stadiums. We have not played the low teams of the league, we have played Man United, Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton – the most difficult places to go.
“But I have to analyse by another perspective, which is the perspective of why we don’t do better, especially against Newcastle. This game was the worst. Against Everton we were really, really unlucky because we had a fantastic first half without scoring.
“In the second half, we had a clear penalty and the ref didn’t give it. Today is the kind of match I really have to analyse deeply because it was the worst.”
