Pools' character leaves Cooper a proud manager
COLIN Cooper took pride in victory at the weekend.
Hartlepool United had to dig in to get the better of Dagenham and Redbridge at Victoria Park.
And the character his players showed to get on top in a difficult encounter pleased Cooper.
“I thought their team was decent and we had to be at our best out there,’’ he said. “Sometimes, like against Wimbledon and Plymouth, we dug in at the right time and managed to find a goal at the right time.
“I’m really chuffed with the way everyone dug in for the club and everyone went home happy.
“It’s nice to hear the support, long may it continue.’’
Pools have won six games from their last seven, three dogged wins at home, three rampant ones away.
Cooper admitted: “When you go away from home, the onus is on the home team to make the running, the kind of people we have in our team, maybe the counter attack suits us a bit more.
“Dagenham countered our system a bit, second-half especially. If we are to be able to create chances we have to, by hook or by crook, keep the ball out of our goal.
“It’s really pleasing how we won this game. We will be alright and win more than we lose as long as we keep doing the right things.
“We will give anybody a game if we do that and me and Craig and the staff will help them all along the way.’’
Pools have been scoring freely in recent games, with James Poole’s goal on Saturday his fourth of the season – already matching last season’s entire tally.
Monkhouse has three and Cooper added: “I think if Andy wants to catch Luke James and James Poole wants to have a go as well, we have players hungry to score goals – it’s brilliant.
“I’d love to think, tongue in cheek, that Luke will get 15-20, Andy will get 12-15-20, Poolie gets 10-15, Sweens chips in, Jack Compton has four. There’s only Michael Duckworth and Scott Flinders not scored at the moment, and Michael nearly did this time.’’
