MIDDLESBROUGH have confirmed Mustapha Carayol suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Bournemouth.

Carayol suffered the injury to his left knee in the 89th minute at the Goldsands Stadium and scans have revealed the midfielder will require surgery, which is likely to take place in two weeks once the swelling has gone down.

Carayol will undergo the operation in London with world-renowned knee specialist Andy Williams and it could rule him out for at least six months meaning the winger could miss the start of next season.
