HARTLEPOOL UNITED'S slender play-off hopes are all but over after suffering a second successive home defeat.

After losing 4-2 at Mansfield in midweek, they fell to a single goal defeat to Cheltenham Town.

Neither side has anything to play for in the final games of the season and it showed for the most of it.

The only goal came on 74 minutes, when Mark Noble’s low cross from the left side of the penalty area was curled towards the far post, defender Darren Holden didn’t deal with it and McGlashan turned in from close range.
A fine low, one-handed save from Robins’ keeper Scott Brown denied Bradley Walker a seventh minute opener, while Jack Barmby also went close for the home side in a bright opening.
On 44 minutes, McGlashan latched onto a clever dink over the defence and his attempted overhead kick was smothered by keeper Scott Flinders.
David Noble’s 49th minute low shot hit the inside of the post, with Flinders beaten.
Jack Compton should have put Pools ahead, but planted a free header wide from close range after being picked out by Jon Franks.
Franks then had a low goalbound shot blocked by the impressive Michael Ihiekwe before McGlashan’s goal.
The closest Pools came to levelling was when James Poole’s goalbound shot was blocked on its way to goal by teammate Luke James.
