NEWCASTLE UNITED are keen to add some promising talent to Alan Pardew’s squad this summer – while the drive to add greater experience will continue too.

Pardew has already informed chief scout Graham Carr and the boardroom about a number of potential targets he would like to explore over the next few weeks.

And as well as the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Jack Colback and Andros Townsend interesting the manager, it has also emerged West Bromwich Albion’s forward Saido Berahino is on the radar.

Carr is continuing to monitor players on the continent, where Alexandre Lacazette, Bafetimbi Gomis and Remy Cabella continue to be tracked. Pardew’s primary aim, though, is to add players with Premier League experience.

Age is of little concern to Pardew either, although the board would prefer to bring in players with potential and Berahino, Colback, Shelvey and Towsend all fit that bill.

Berahino is the latest to have emerged , with the England Under-21 international’s future at The Hawthorns uncertain.

The Baggies are in no rush to sell until they have appointed Pepe Mel’s successor.

Berahino’s future has been unclear since his dressing room bust-up with Darlington-born team-mate James Morrison. The forward is alleged to have had a punch thrown at him and he was unhappy with the way West Brom handled it.

There were a number of clubs courting him at the start of the season when he burst on to the scene, scoring in West Brom’s win at Manchester United.

Pardew, assured that he will still be in charge at the start of next season, wants to see progress made on the recruitment front before the World Cup.

He is already resigned to not being able to persuade Loic Remy to return to St James’ Park following his loan from QPR, while Shola Ameobi, Luuk De Jong and Dan Gosling are among those to be at the end of their deals with the club.

Gosling will not be getting a new deal and, despite interest from other clubs, it is understood the former Everton midfielder’s proposed move to Bournemouth is at an advanced stage.M

Midfielder Connor Newton, 22, spent last season on loan at St Mirren and is available for nothing. Millwall and Wolves the latest clubs to be weighing up a move, with Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday interested.
