1 SIEM De Jong was actually born in Aigle, Switzerland, moving to Holland at the age of six with his Dutch parents.

2 He graduated from the same school as Guus Hiddink, Paul Bosvelt and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

3 Siem is the Dutch short term for Simon.

4 He has Luiz Suarez’ phone number, having played alongside the Uruguayan at Ajax.

5 In 2012, De Jong was asked to pick his World XI for FIFPro. Asked which of his choices he would like to play alongside he said: “All of them.”

6 De Jong was a member of the Dutch players’ Union WCS with his brother Luuk.

7 He cites Jari Litmanen and Dennis Bergkamp as his favourite players growing up.

8 Asked in 2012, which country he would like to play in. He said Spain “because of the weather and the beach”. Oh well....

9 At the start of last season, he suffered a collapsed lung, one of five injuries he had during 2013/14.

10 De Jong has never been sent off in his career.
