ALAN PARDEW took his players to the beach for the next phase of pre-season training yesterday as Newcastle United wait to make another splash on the transfer front.

After landing Siem De Jong, Ayoze Perez and Jack Colback already this summer, Pardew is keen for more additions before they head for new Zealand on July 18.

Having been encouraged to make a fresh £9.5m offer from Montpellier for Remy Cabella, the Magpies have clearly not given up on the France international but are weighing up a list of other attacking targets.

And as well as Arsenal's Costa Rican Joel Campbell, a couple of new names to have been floated in the direction of St James' Park are Monaco's young forward Emmanuel Riviere and Ecuador's Enner Valencia.

The link to Riviere, an Under-21 international, has surfaced in France because Newcastle kept an eye on his progress before he left Toulouse for around £3m last year.

Valencia's name is circling across the European leagues after a largely impressive World Cup in which he scored three goals. At this stage a move to Iberia is being highly touted, with Sporting Lisbon, Porto, Valencia and Sevilla all keen.

However, there is also significant interest in him shown from Italy and the Premier League, where Newcastle know they stand a chance of signing the versatile forward.

The problem facing Newcastle, though, is that Mexican club Pachuca, where he scored 18 goals in 23 league matches in his first season, are likely to sell to the highest bidder.

Pachuca's vice president Andres Fassi said: "Enner Valencia's value increases every day, we don't know if he will stay. It will be hard given the offers we have received."

History suggests Newcastle will not enter in to a bidding war and it is understood the Mexican club are looking for around the £12m mark.

Despite signing De Jong for £7.5m from Ajax, Newcastle know they desperately need more attacking power. Papiss Cisse is still the only recognised out and out first team striker Pardew has available.

But Newcastle know they also need a new right-back, with Feyenoord's Daryl Janmaat highest in their thinking to replace Arsenal-bound Mathieu Debuchy. The Gunners' England Under-21 international Carl Jenkinson has been offered to them on loan.

And reports in Italy yesterday claimed that Newcastle have made contact with Juventus over their Chilean World Cup full-back Mauricio Isla. The 26-year-old has been unable to hold down a first team shirt since arriving from Udinese in 2012.

Sources in Italy claim Newcastle have already been in touch with the Serie A champions but there is no firm bid so far, with a deal complicated by the fact Udinese still own 50 per cent of Isla's playing registration forms.

Newcastle are pressing ahead with trying to conclude more deals but the squad stepped up fitness work on Tynemouth beach yesterday.

De Jong, Perez and Colback were all involved in the running and pre-season fitness programme along with Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini and the rest of the first team squad.

Hundreds of onlookers were around to joke and watch the Premier League players train as well as take a paddle in the North Sea.
