MATHIEU DEBUCHY finalised his move to Arsenal last night and Newcastle United are pressing ahead with plans to replace him with another World Cup player.

The Magpies are understood to have had a fresh round of talks with Feyenoord in the hope of landing Holland’s Daryl Janmaat.

And after the Dutch were knocked out at the semi-final stage by Argentina on penalties on Thursday night, Janmaat hopes to have his future mapped out before the end of next week. He is keen to know where he will be playing next season before a post-Brazil holiday.

Manchester United, who have the player’s international coach Louis van Gaal as their new manager are also heavily linked with him, although Newcastle are in pole position.

Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson, an England Under-21 international, still appears to be a strong contender to arrive on loan too, but Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is keen to have more experience and Janmaat fits the bill. Manchester City’s Micah Richards is a more expensive alternative.

Frenchman Debuchy is understood to have passed his medical at the Emirates and replaces compatriot Bacary Sagna, who has joined Manchester City, in the Gunners squad. His move to London ends an 18-month stay on Tyneside after arriving from Lille in January last year.

If Pardew can conclude a deal for Janmaat then he will follow attacking midfielder Siem De Jong, bought for £7.5m from Ajax, from the Eredivisie. Newcastle are continuing negotiations with a number of clubs aimed at bringing in attacking reinforcements.

Montpellier’s £13m-rated Remy Cabella is still the priority. He went on holiday yesterday and has asked to be kept informed of any developments, with Newcastle unwilling to match his valuation.

Cabella is seen by many as the replacement for Hatem Ben Arfa. Newcastle’s enigmatic Frenchman is still not training with the first team squad and was with the Under-21s again yesterday. Pardew is keen to see the playmaker build his fitness back up before he joins in with the rest of the senior players.

One player who has not been training with either squad is young Aussie defender Curtis Good. After missing out on a World Cup call due to injury, Good could head back to Scotland for a further loan with Dundee United.

The centre-back is recovering from hip surgery, but the Tangerines have asked Newcastle to inform them if he becomes available for a short-term switch.
