NEWCASTLE UNITED have completed the £6m signing of Dutch defender Daryl Janmaat.
The Holland right-back, who was part of his country's run to the World Cup semi-final, passed a medical on Tyneside today and has signed a six-year contract at St James' Park.
Janmaat, signed from Feyenoord, had been linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the summer but Newcastle pounced while Old Trafford's decision makers stalled.
He will be a direct replacement for Mathieu Debuchy, who will complete a deal worth double the fee Newcastle have paid for Janmaat when he is confirmed as an Arsenal player.
Newcastle have now signed five players this summer and are looking for a new striker. Ayoze Perez, Siem De Jong and Jack Colback could all play in tonight's pre-season friendly at Oldham. Remy Cabella and Janmaat, however, will be given extra time off following their World Cup run-outs.
