GUSTAVO POYET has confirmed that a number of Sunderland's fringe players will be leaving the club this summer.

Modibo Diakite is set to join Fiorentina as part of a deal that should see full-back Marcos Alonso returning to the Stadium of Light, but he is unlikely to be the only player severing his ties with the Black Cats this summer.

Alfred N'Diaye and Cabral both featured in Saturday's 5-1 friendly win over Darlington having returned from loan deals away from Wearside last season, but neither player is expected to be part of Sunderland's squad next season.

David Moberg Karlsson is also expected to depart, either permanently or on loan, while Charis Mavrias and Valentin Roberge will also be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer is received.

“I cannot comment on the names, but I think it is obvious that some players will be leaving – and they know who they are," said Poyet. "It’s clear, there are no doubts.

"But for the moment they are our players and we respect them. We will make sure they do what they need to do when they are training with us, and as long as they are professional and behave, they will not have a problem being with us.

"But if we get the players we need, it is going to be difficult for them to play in the next few games. That’s for sure. But it’s not about being selfish, it’s about being professional and getting the best out of the players for the football club."
