Sunderland target Borini flies to America for Liverpool's pre-season tour
FABIO BORINI has flown to Boston with the rest of Liverpool's squad for a pre-season tour despite Sunderland agreeing a £14m fee for his services on Friday night.
Gustavo Poyet confirmed an agreement was in place to sign Borini on Friday evening, and Sunderland officials had been hoping to discuss personal terms with the striker within the next 24 hours.
However, with reports in Italy suggesting Borini is reluctant to return to the Stadium of Light after last season's loan spell, the fact the striker has travelled to the US as part of Brendan Rodgers' squad is a worrying development from a Sunderland perspective.
Having previously spoken of his desire to play in the Champions League, Borini is understood to be concerned at the prospect of a return to Wearside turning into another battle against the drop.
The financial side of any deal is not believed to be a problem, but Sunderland could have their work cut out as they attempt to persuade Borini that it is in his best interests to return to the North-East.
Liverpool are due to play four matches in the United States, with a potential fifth in the offing if they make the final of the International Champions Cup, with their group also featuring Olympiacos, Manchester City and AC Milan.
The final of the tournament is due to take place on Monday, August 4, and while Borini could theoretically return to England at any time, Sunderland must decide whether to continue their pursuit of him or switch to alternative attacking targets.
