NEWCASTLE

There’s unlikely to be more transfer movement at St James’ Park for a while. Newcastle are out in New Zealand until Monday, then they face Sheffield Wednesday in midweek before heading to Germany.

Managing director Lee Charnley is in regular contact with Alan Pardew to discuss any progress that is being made and, as things stand, there is as much chance of somebody leaving than there is arriving.

While Arsenal’s Joel Campbell, Borussia Dortmund’s Patrick Aubameyang and Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku are among the attacking alternatives to the more expensive Alexandre Lacazette, nothing is imminent.

In fact Bordeaux’s move for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa means his departure is just as likely as one of the above arriving; probably more so.

Yanga-Mbiwa cost £6.7m 20 months ago so Newcastle will not be in any rush to let him go cheaply, but are willing to listen to offers if the price is right.

Many believe Yanga-Mbiwa deserves a chance to start the season alongside Fabrcio Coloccini, which is why Bordeaux’s attempts to take him on loan have been knocked back.

Will Bordeaux return with a cash offer to try to tempt Newcastle in to a sale?

SUNDERLAND

After all the talk of Marcos Alonso and Fabio Borini, it has emerged that Patrick van Aanholt is the man next to arrive at Sunderland.

A four-year deal has been prepared for the 23-year-old Dutchman and he was on Wearside yesterday to finalise the move. He will head be joining the Sunderland squad in Portugal next week, where he will make his first appearance.

It brings to an end Sunderland’s search for a new left-back, although it doesn’t end Poyet’s interest in taking Alonso back to the Stadium of Light. That could still happen too, if a deal can be reached with Fiorentina.

Van Aanholt, though, will have the first chance to stake a claim to start the season in the Premier League, which is exactly what he wants after deciding he has had enough at Chelsea.

MIDDLESBROUGH

Despite plenty of conversations, suggestions, offers and talk, Middlesbrough are still to follow up the purchase of Spanish striker Kike with another new face.

Instead there continues to be interest in some of Aitor Karanka’s players, but he is not in a position to allow any more players to leave until he has strengthened his squad.

Nottingham Forest are still interested in Albert Adomah. They have made a couple of offers already for his services and are expected to make another. Will Karanka agree to sell? Probably not. He can’t afford to lose another of his creative talents. Adomah could cost more to replace.
