NEWCASTLE UNITED manager Alan Pardew refused to speak to the written press following his side’s 4-0 defeat to Southampton.

The Magpies are without a league win after four games and sit bottom of the Premier League despite spending over £30m this summer.

A brace first half brace from Graziano Pelle and two second half goals from Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin sealed their fate on an afternoon that saw an impressive away following of 2,500 make their feelings towards the manager known.

Chants of “we want Pardew out” and “you’re getting sacked in the morning” were sung regularly throughout the 90 minutes, and afterwards the Magpies boss refused to speak to the written media.

He did, however, speak to Sky and BBC.

“We didn't have long to prepare after the internationals but there's no excuse really,” Pardew said.

“The players tried everything at 2-0. We just caught at the start.

“The criticisms from the fans are fair. You can't get beat 4-0 - I've had a few of those at the club.

“We have to be strong and tough it out. We have to put ourselves on the line and be brave. We have more quality than we showed today.”
