HARTLEPOOL UNITED’S desperate season of woe rumbles on.
A week after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Blyth and sacking manager Paul Murray, Pools collapsed to a 4-0 defeat at Burton Albion.
It was the Brewers’ biggest home win in over two and a half years and it could have been more than four.
Ronnie Moore, among the candidates to replace Paul Murray as Pools boss, watched the game. An appointment – Pools fourth boss of the season – is likely early next week.
Pools, under caretaker boss Sam Collins, were solid and organised in the first half, but collapsed in the second period amid some pitiful defending.
They conceded on 44 minutes, Matthew Bates getting in the way of Jordan Richards and the ball landed for Alex MacDonald out wide. He curled across Scott Flinders from distance and the ball bounced in off the far post.
Despite the 15-minute half-time interval, Pools habit of conceded back to back goals came to the fire as they shipped a second 22 seconds into the second half.
A routine ball into the area was laid off by striker Jacob Blyth for MacDonald to latch onto and score as the defenders stood watching.
Every time the ball was in the Pools box it was panic stations.
Number three was from a near post corner, defender Shane Candsell-Sherriff headed in.
And the fourth – leaving Pools with a goal difference of minus 24 – came as Stuart Beavon was given all the time and space he wanted to pick his spot and fire in.
