GUS POYET had revealed Adam Johnson and Wes Brown should be fit for Saturday’s match against Burnley, but admitted there are still question marks over Lee Cattermole’s return.

Johnson missed Saturday’s goalless draw with Fulham in the FA Cup, as did centre-back Brown, but the pair have both trained ahead of the weekend.

“Adam Johnson and Wes Brown both trained today [Wednesday] and everything is looking well,” Poyet revealed.

“Wes was out of training for longer and Johnno has been training individually, so he has been running a lot – I would think he will be 100% sure for Saturday but we need to see how Wes reacts during the next couple of days, especially with the weather conditions that we had today.”

Cattermole has been absent since the goalless draw with Aston Villa on December 28 and the Black Cats head coach revealed he is making progress.

He said: “Lee is getting there slowly.

“It is a tricky injury because it is the type where if you make a mistake and bring him back too early you will go backwards.

“Set-backs with these injuries are what you don’t want so we’re making sure everything is spot on.”
