MIDDLESBROUGH will not be making any more additions this month following the £2m signing of midfielder Adam Forshaw.

Forshaw completed his move from Wigan Athletic yesterday, and is set to be among the substitutes when Boro travel his former club, Brentford, at the weekend.

He replaces Milos Veljkovic, who has returned to Tottenham following the end of his loan spell, and with his arrival having ensured Aitor Karanka has two different players for each position in his side, there will be no more recruitment business ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Karanka said: “There will be nothing more. The only position where we were working to bring someone in was a midfielder. Adam is here now, so everything is okay.

“Every transfer window has its surprises, but I do not expect anything to happen. I don’t expect to be working late (on Monday) because everything is clear now and we have the squad that we want. I don’t think we are going to have any surprises.”

There has been interest in a number of Middlesbrough players this month, but Karanka is equally confident that no one will be leaving Teesside ahead of Monday night’s deadline.

He said: “There has been interest, but it is a good thing that all of my players want to be here, and that is all they are thinking about. It is not difficult for me to convince the players to stay here now because they want to be here rather than thinking about going to other places to earn more money.

“They believe in the project and know how big this club is. We are in a very good position right now, and the most important thing for me is that all of the players are here because they want to be here.”

Boro’s Rockliffe Park training ground is currently carpeted in thick snow, but the wintry weather has not affected preparations for Saturday’s trip to Griffin Park.

Karanka said: “It hasn’t been too much of a problem. We were lucky (today) because when we were training, it wasn’t actually snowing.

“It has snowed quite a lot since then, but it’s good that it’s happened on a Thursday and Friday because we have done most of work now. If it happened on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and we hadn’t been able to train, that would have been more of a problem.”

Daniel Ayala is suspended at the weekend, meaning Ben Gibson will partner Kenneth Omeruo at centre-half. Mustapha Carayol is unlikely to be involved in the squad despite making a 60-minute appearance for the development side earlier this week.
