THE TOP two Championship contenders both made maximum victories to leave Hunwick A, who had beaten the visiting Fishburn 5-0, five points ahead of Bearpark A, who had a similar success against the visiting Thornley. The Hunwick team had wins from Martin Perry, Paul Atkinson with breaks of 43 and 34, Dale Wilson, Steven Webb and Neville Blenkinsopp. The Bearpark A winners were Alex Donaldson, Glen Morton, Shaun Easter, David Craggs and Wayne Watson.

                Newton Aycliffe took the first four frames against the visiting Durham City with wins from Alan Keeney, Sean Foxton, Michael Hewitt and Steve Colbeck before Brian Graham avoided a visiting duck.

                Meadowfield won the decider to beat the visiting Spennymoor. Alan Clarke put the visitors ahead but Stephen Hughes and Warren Kennick with a 30 break moved the hosts ahead. Paul Davison equalised but Michael McNay clinched the home win by beating Alan Rouell in the decider.

                Wheatley Hill were never headed by the visiting Crowtrees. Dave Walker put the home team ahead but Sonny Hann levelled. David Lowes with a 41 break restored the Hill’s lead only to see Keith McLaughlan with a 43 break equalise. In the decider Alan Hall took the Hill to victory by beating Ray Pirt.

                Cockton Hill A took the first and last frames at Wingate through Lee Taylor and Andrew Aisbitt, but the home side took victory with wins from David Wallace, Jimmy Mason and David Carr junior.

                Ferryhill A had wins from Ian Fawcett and Paul Batey but the visiting Sherburn Village edged to victory with wins from Scott Mallaburn, Albert Bower and John Bower.

                Langley Park B edged a point ahead in the Second Division after they only dropped one point at New Durham, who had Robert Charlton as their only winner. The Park had wins from Malcolm Peart, Willis Joynes, John Rooney senior and Ian Kerr.

                Shildon Elm Road beat the visiting Hunwick B in the decider to slip a point behind Langley Park B at the top of the Second Division. Graeme Witton made a 38 break to put Elm Road ahead but the visitors went ahead with wins from Paul Maddison and Barry Fleming. Paul Armstrong equalised and Andrew Tennant beat Harold Lomax, who was making a welcome return to league action, in the decider.

                Langley Park B had Stephen Turnbull as their only winner against the visiting Ferryhill B, who had wins from Trevor Bowden, Ian Roddam, Adrian Jones and Stuart Roddam.

                Stanley Central retained promotion dreams when Robert Jones won the only point for the visiting Trimdon Colliery. The hosts had wins from Ray Oliver, Jason Johnson, Darren Talbot and Rob Hogarth, who put in a 46 break.

                Cockton Hill B had wins from Lee Todd and Colin Walker, but the visiting Bearpark B went to victory with wins from John Peart, Dean Ward and Alex brown.

                Crook Belle Vue ended their run of ducks by taking the first and last frames at Sacriston with wins from Charlie Donaghy and Tommy Williams. The home win was clinched with wins from Michael Frazer, Alan Richardson and Willie Nixon.
