NEWTON HALL quartet win County title

 

                The Bowls Durham Ladies National Fours semi finals and final were held at Durham City Bowling Club where the semi finals results were Linda Dodsworth, Judy Henley, Pat Johnson and Edna Atkinson (Lyndhurst) 20 Susan Forster, Margaret Metcalf, Glynis Morgan and Joan Rodgerson (Houghton Dairy Lane) 17; Fay Slinn, Eileen Horan, Jennie Smith and Anne Bernard (Newton Hall) 16 Teresa Pearson, Edna Stokoe, Trudy Kitto and Gill Jones (Consett Park) 15.

                Final: Fay Slinn, Eileen Horan, Jennie Smith and Anne Bernard (Newton Hall) 29 Linda Dodsworth, Judy Henley, Pat Johnson and Edna Atkinson (Lyndhurst) 5. Both finalists will represent Durham County at the Leamington National Finals in August.

 

Durham & District League

 

                In the early top of the table clash Sherburn Village moved up to share the top spot with Leeholme following their convincing victory. The Villagers won by 78 shots to 72 with the rink scores (Sherburn first) T. Leathers 19 S. Land 16; V. Simpson 26 B. Attwood 19; R. Forster 18 W. Teasdale 16; A. Temple 15 J. Taylor 21.

                King George were able to celebrate their first victory of the season when they won by 80 shots to 68 at Peterlee, but it was not enough to lift them from the foot of the Second Division. The rink scores (Peterlee first) were S. Brown 21 J. Burnip 20; R. Smedley 12 C. Thompson 25; K. Todd 12 A. Musgrove 23; F. Todd 23 R. Douthwaite 12.

                Glenholme took eight points from the visiting Wolsingham to move into second place in the Third Division. The Crook team won by 75 shots to 68 with the rink scores (Glenholme first) D. McDonald 20 T. bll 15; R. Lockey 22 L. Hogarth 19; A. Johnson 14 I. Wilson 19; D. Barker 19 M. O’Dell 15.

Ladies Northern Trophy League

 

                Bowls Durham Ladies entertained Yorkshire at Houghton Dairy Lane and recovered from their first match defeat to record an eight points to three victory.

                The Durham rink scores were Maureen Rockett, Edna Stokoe, Glynis Morgan and Joan Rodgerson lost 15-24; Pat Johnson, Anne Camp, Joan Mason and Ann Anderson won 22-17; Jean Graham, Jane Pattison, Norma Stephenson and Sue Almond lost 11-26; Joan Brown, Jane Piggford, Joyce Woodward and Gill Jones won 21- 9; Mary McGee, Margaret Metcalf, Joyce Stephenson and Teresa Pearson won 30-12; Eileen Atkinson, Dorothy Hudson, Neil Hart and Trudy Kitto lost 17-25.

                The Durham team won by 116 shots to 113.

                The semi finals draw is Slinn/Horan/Bernard (Newton Hall) v Jackson/Welsh/Ridpath (Owton Lodge) and Hart/Swan/Woodward (Durham City) v Darlington/Etherington/Morgan (Darlington Woodland).

                These matches will be played at Durham City Bowling Club and will be followed by the final. Both winners and runners-up will represent Durham County in the National Finals.

 

Durham Midweek League

 

                The last remaining unbeaten records were lost when Witton Gilbert beat the visiting Newton Hall and Vane Tempest beat the visiting Sherburn Village.
