AUCKLAND AREA League

                Joint league runners up, Spennymoor Voltigeur and Henknowle Manor faced each other in the semi final of the Team Knock Out Shield. The Manor got away to a stunning start by winning the first four frames through Steven Webb, Ron Wright, John Tomlinson and Peter Mernor, before Barrie Walton got the Volti's starter. A second point from Webb restored the four point cushion, before the home side threatened a comeback when Andrew Mole, Lee Atkinson and Chris Bowron all won. However, Graham Witton took the final singles point for the visitors and they clinched the final spot when Webb joined Mernor to win the pairs game.

                The Manor will meet Spennymoor Top Hat in the final after they eased through their semi final at Bishop Auckland Sports Bar. Shaun Reynolds won a point for the hosts, but the Hatters ran out winners with two points each from Tony Biddle and Andrew Morley and one each from Dean Mains, Peter Summerfield and Geoff Brown.

Trimdon Doubles Championship

 

                The League Doubles Championship semi-finals saw Jonny Eves and Paul Mason of the Dovecote A and Neil Whitfield with Barry Brown of the Dovecote B move into the final following wins over Peter Spellman and Derek Booth of the Dovecote A and Gary Piercy and Paul Clarkson of Thornley Officials Club A.

                Eves and Mason took the title when they beat Whitfield and Brown in the final.

                The League Presentation Evening will be held at Kelloe Club on Thursday, 11 June.

 

Bishop Auckland League

 

                There were no major surprises in the First Round of the Team Knock Out, where the best result was the newcomers from the Aclet beating the visiting Green Tree.

                At Coundon Durham Ox the home team had two wins from Michael Aldworth and one each from David Bowes and Wayne Whitfield but the visiting Tow Law New Market replied with two each from Steven Webb and Shaun Umpelby and one each from Craig Hardy and Steven Burke. The visitors clinched their victory when David Murray joined Hardy to win the doubles.

                Crook Mill House A team retained the League Championship trophy, ending with a 20 point advantage over the runners-up from the Travellers Rest A.

Trimdon Plate Final

 

                Kelloe Club was the venue for the final of the Trimdon Plate between Coxhoe Red Lion and Trimdon Village Black Bull. The absorbing match saw the pendulum swing back and forth but the teams were still level after the six singles.

                The first two doubles were also shared leaving a nail-biting decider, which was clinched by the Red Lion.
