SCHOOLCHILDREN in Bishop Auckland have sent buckets filled with aid to Haiti.
Pupils at Cockton Hill Infant School collected gifts for earthquake victims through the charity Buckets of Love.
The charity sends aid to communities in need across the world from its base in Scotland.
The school delayed its World Book Day celebrations until Friday, when Buckets of Love sent representative Jodi Unsworth to collect the gifts.
Children chose a pirate theme for the day and went to school dressed as characters from fiction.
Headteacher Dr John Redman said his pupils were very caring.
He said: “We thought we could collect enough gifts for two buckets but the school council said they wanted to do more.
“They filled ten in the end with six or seven carrier bags full as well. They are very kind children. A lot of the gifts came from them, not from their parents.
