Banners reflect railway museum’s Oriental theme

12:03pm Thursday 21st August 2008

LOCOMOTION: the National Railway Museum at Shildon, begins a Chinese and Oriental programme this week.

The first thing visitors will see when arriving at the Collections building will be a welcoming banner in Chinese and another wishing them a safe journey home as they leave.

The banners have been designed and created by Newcastle solicitor Kenny Chinn who creates transcripts, pictures and exhibitions depicting Chinese calligraphy.

Each banner features a red traditional Chinese seal wishing visitors long life, good health, peace and harmony.

The banners were presented by Mr Chinn to the Mayor of Sedgefield Councillor John Robinson and museum manager George Muirhead.

The programme of events will run from this Saturday, August 23, until mid-October and include Chinese and Oriental crafts, food, entertainment and stalls.

For details call 01388- 816166 extension 4412.

The schedule includes talks about China's railways, twice daily this Saturday and Sunday, August 24, at 11.30am and 2pm. The talks will last about an hour.
