EDDIE HOWE has confirmed Newcastle United are closely monitoring the free-transfer market ahead of the reopening of the transfer window – but also insists the Magpies are ready to spend in the summer.

Newcastle have held talks over Fulham centre-half Tosin Adarabioyo and Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in the last few weeks, with both players due to become free agents this summer.

Fulham boss Marco Silva has confirmed that Adarabioyo is set to leave Craven Cottage when his current contract expires, with Newcastle currently leading the race to secure his signature.

Kelly, who also looks likely to move on this summer, is another long-term target, with Newcastle’s recruitment team making proactive attempts to make the most of the free-transfer market.

“We're exploring every market,” explained Howe, ahead of tomorrow’s game at Burnley. “Everything that we can that we feel benefits us. We're not necessarily looking at the free transfer market in isolation, we're looking at every option and every theme. I wouldn't say it's exclusive.”

Nevertheless, with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability continuing to restrict Newcastle’s options in the transfer market, Howe admits it will be imperative that the club continue to get the best possible value-for-money when they conduct their transfer business this summer.

“Of course, we're trying to do good business,” said Newcastle’s head coach. “We're not trying to excessively spend money, that'll be the same as long as I'm here.

“We're looking for players we feel that are worth the money that clubs potentially put on their heads. But as I say, it's not exclusive to any theme, we're always looking for good deals.”

Silva expects Adarabioyo to be moving on from Craven Cottage this summer, although having dropped the defender for last weekend’s draw with Crystal Palace, the Fulham boss is considering restoring the 26-year-old to the side for tomorrow’s game with Brentford.

“Last weekend, my decision was a technical decision,” said Silva. “I know all the noise around him (Adarabioyo) and his future of course.

“Of course I have been speaking to him, I have a really close relationship like with all the players and everything is clear between myself and him, like all the other players, and from him to me and my staff as well.

“If Tosin is going to be on the pitch he’s going to be on the pitch, he’s going to be in the squad if I’m going decide for him to be in the squad. Nothing has changed from last week.

“When it starts to come, the news that he’s not going to be with us next season, I know what he told me, I prefer to keep that between us. Of course, that’s a decision from the player. But apart from that Tosin is ready to play or to be in the squad if I decide for him to be there.

“Tosin has to be clear about his future when he decides to be clear about his future, and he has to talk about it. Of course we are here to try to prepare as best we can the future of the football club.

“We haven’t hidden that situation that we try to renew with him, not just him but other players near the end of their contracts and it’s not been easy. Probably his future is not going to be at the club anymore.”
